Driving home from school with the Boy. He is in kindergarten and is the most adorable thing ever. Truth. He’s 15 now and the adorableness? Not so much. But, I digress.
We’re driving past the neighbor’s house. They have two dogs. A boy dog and a girl dog.
Boy: Mommy? Why don’t Obi and Leia have puppies? (I know…a little too much Star Wars for me too)
Me: Well. Usually when people have dogs or cats, they take them to the vet and the vet does a little operation so the dogs can’t have babies. It’s called “getting them fixed.”
Boy: Oh. Mommy? The boy has to give the girl a seed to make puppies right?
Me: Yes. *sigh*
Boy: Mommy? I was wondering…
Wondering? Wondering what? You are not old enough to be wondering about these kind of things…
Boy: Exactly how does the boy dog give the girl dog the seed?
Me: Is this something you really need to know right now?
Boy: No. Why?
WHY? You are five-years old! That’s why.
Me: I would really feel more comfortable talking about this with you when you are a little older.
Boy: Like when I’m 10?
Me: Exactly. You remind me, when you’re 10, that I said we would talk about puppies and how they’re made.
Boy: Okay. Thanks Mommy.
